Key Largo, FL
I made the best use of my summer between years of graduate school. Taking my marine science undergraduate experience to inland Indiana, provided me the opportunity to travel to Key Largo in the Florida Keys to get some practice in underwater archeology. We learned to take notes underwater. We dove on a anchor that has been marked as a dive site to both allow people to see the old world treasure and protect it. I compared a new photo of the coral growth on the anchor to a previous photo to assist in understanding the rate that corals can find a new substrate to grown on and then how quickly, or more commonly, slowly, it grows.
